In October of 2008, after serving three years as a Naval Officer, I was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer. This blog chronicles my pilgrimage through life and towards the Roman Catholic priesthood.

The Inspirational Story of Garvan Byrne
Innocence speaks louder than the intellect of any man. No sadness or complaining from this young boy:
He is so convincing in his beliefs that it is hard to think all he said is not true. It has long been my own desire/goal to die with such an excitement and joy as young Gavan has expressed. I have always thought of that day as a sort of "birth" day! Through my own illness I have felt fortunate to have been given the time in my life to come to understand and prepare for a welcoming death - I plan to die with a smile on my face! Thank you for posting this video!

I dare anyone to watch this without crying both tears of sadness and of joy. What a lovely and wise boy. Surely he was filled with the grace of the Holy Spirit in a very vivid and wonderful way!
What a brave and wonderful boy. Thank you for sharing. I am a catechist to 8th grade students (ages 13-14) and confirmandi in Birmingham, Alabama. I plan to sharing this young man's story with them.
