In October of 2008, after serving three years as a Naval Officer, I was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer. This blog chronicles my pilgrimage through life and towards the Roman Catholic priesthood.

Don't Leave Mass Before a Prayer of Thanksgiving!

My husband and I are most often the only two that stay after Mass to pray, which is not an easy thing to do with people around you holding conversations and laughing up a storm.
In our church, a significant number of people receive the Eucharist, then walk straight out the door while the priest is still distributing Communion! At the Saturday vigil mass, people start walking out AS SOON AS THE CELEBRANT TURNS TO THE TABERNACLE and before he has even begun distributing the Communion. Those who manage to stay until "the mass has ended" often dive out into the center aisle and scurry out the doors right in front of the cross-bearer as the priest and servers process out. It is distressing and distracting, and for some reason, the pastor will not SAY ANYTHING ABOUT IT!!!! (Sorry for the vehement post, but this is an on-going problem in our parish and I find it truly disturbing that people are so disrespectful.)
I am almost breathless. I found your blog when I, on a whim, Googled your name. I had heard of you a couple years ago, just a blurb really. And I threw your name into the short list of seminarians my kids and I pray for, all we know personally- except you :) So it surprises me to see this post about giving thanks after mass because for two years my kids and I have prayed for you after EVERY mass!!!! Here's to many more years of praying for you. Alleluia!!!

I attend the Latin rite. This is very rare.
Nothing more distracting then trying to pray after Mass while other carry on conversations.
